Survey Overview
The annual Pitt Student Satisfaction Survey is a University-wide, undergraduate survey that seeks to better understand the broad experiences of all Pitt undergraduate students. This survey, distributed every spring semester, covers topics ranging from academic advising and instruction to campus facilities and student/faculty interactions.
The goal of the Pitt Student Satisfaction Survey is to gather data that helps Pitt students, faculty, and staff gain a better understanding of the student experience across topic areas. This data can then be disaggregated by college, major, year, or a variety of other variables to produce insights the Pitt community can use to develop new initiatives that cultivate student success.
Survey Format
The Pitt Student Satisfaction Survey is structured around multiple question modules designed to gather longitudinal and cross-sectional data on the student experience. In general, the structure of the survey includes the following question modules:
- Core Module (Longitudinal Data): a set of consistent questions designed to track student satisfaction in multiple areas over time.
- College/School-Specific Modules (Longitudinal and/or Cross-sectional Data): Pitt colleges and schools can choose to include specialized question modules within the survey that can only be viewed by students in a specific college or school. This feature allows program leaders to gather data from undergraduate students in their respective college/school while reducing survey fatigue.
- Randomized and Subject Modules (Longitudinal and/or Cross-sectional Data): Each year, the student satisfaction survey includes randomized question modules designed to gather student perspectives on specialized topics. These modules may run multiple years or only during one survey administration period. The randomization of these modules means students may receive different questions depending on their randomized assignment. Randomization modules allow for the collection of specialized data and attempt to avoid overburdening students with too many survey questions.
